Bagno Vignoni belongs to the province of Siena and is mainly known for its thermal springs. Where the market square is in other towns, there is a large thermal pool in Bagno Vignoni, lined with cafes and restaurants, which the Etruscans and Romans already used.
Since 1989, however, it has no longer been allowed to swim there. The largest thermal pool is located in the Adler Thermae wellness hotel. Only hotel guests are allowed to use the benefits of this pool. Below the town of Bagno Vignoni there is a thermal pool that can be used free of charge by everyone. However, it is a bit difficult to access. Either you dare to make the very steep descent down the slope or you leave the town by car in the direction of SS2 into the valley and then park on the street.
On the still cool morning, clouds of mist rise from the warm thermal pool and waft between the houses, enveloping the spring and the surrounding houses in a mystical atmosphere. If you want to experience this, you should get up early in the morning, the warmer the ambient air is, the earlier, as the clouds of fog will dissipate with the first direct rays of sunshine. My photos were taken at 8 a.m. on a cool May day. Then you have the place to yourself and can park nearby and for free.
