The Cranenweyer is also called 'the Green Lung'. About fifty years ago a large reservoir was built to protect the area from flooding. Now it is a beautiful nature reserve where you can regularly spot cormorants.

The Cranenweyer, 'an der Cranen weyer' (weyer means pond), is the only reservoir in the Netherlands. It belongs to the domain of Kasteel Erenstein and has a water-regulating function to prevent flooding in the former municipality of Eygelshoven.
