The Nordic-looking Schremser Hochmoor promises scenic impressions like in Sweden. Bog pine forests, moss cushions, swamp porosity and a former peat cutting: Off to the natural sites in this magical, enchanted Waldviertel moor landscape. The peat bog, which lies between the villages of Langschwarza, Gebharts and Schrems, covers 300 hectares and, as the Schremser Hochmoor, was once the largest bog in Lower Austria. 119 hectares of the total area have been declared the Schrems Hochmoor Nature Park. In addition, the moor landscape is part of the Ramsar conservation area of the Waldviertel ponds, moors and rivers and is protected by Natura 2000.
