😎The Lower Flößteich is an old reservoir in the Upper Harz. It is located directly on the outskirts of Bockswiese. The residents of the settlement probably built it in the first half or middle of the 17th century.
Initially, the Lower Raft Pond was used for rafting purposes by causing a small tidal wave by releasing large amounts of water. This approach made it easier to transport wood on the Grumbach.
The pond was later used to store impact water for the nearby mines of the Bockswieser Zug. Today it represents the lowest of the historical mining ponds in the six-stage Auerhahn cascade that has existed since the end of the 17th century. The dam height of the Lower Flößteich is around 3.80 meters and the length of the pond dam is around 110 meters. The artificial lake is approximately 120 meters long and around 80 meters wide. It can store a maximum of 10,000 cubic meters of water.
