Piazza XX Settembre is dominated by a striking Romanesque-Gothic style building that was originally the Palazzo del Podestà, a medieval administrative palace built in 1299. The Palazzo del Podestà has since been converted into a theater by set designer and entrepreneur Giacomo Torelli, Teatro della Fortuna, transformed in 1665 and 1677, then rebuilt with a new 900-seat neoclassical-style opera house designed by Luigi Poletti, which opened in 1863. The theater suffered damage during World War II and was restored to its original glory, reopening again in 1998. Another standout feature and an iconic Fano attraction in Piazza XX Settembre is the Fontana della Fortuna. The bronze statue on top of the fountain represents the goddess Fortuna and is a copy of the original statue, modeled and cast in 1593 by Donnino Ambrosi from Urbino. The original statue is in
