Fort Blauwkapel (built around 1820) is located around the village of Blauwkapel with its 15th-century church. The fort has a small business park, a nature reserve and a scouting group in the bombproof guard house. The western part of the fort is open to the public as a recreational area. Fort Blauwkapel is one of the largest forts of the Waterline and was built around an existing village. The fort owes its name to the chapel of this village; the walls and barrel vault used to be painted blue, the color of Mary. At the fort you see a special combination of new architectural styles and old history.
