The Church of San Vittore. The symbol of the island
The most striking of all the sights on Isola dei Pescatori is the Church of San Vittore. This national monument has attractions such as an original apse decorated with single arched windows from the 11th century. The church was later expanded to include two chapels dedicated to the Sacred Heart and the Virgin. The church of San Vittore has presented itself in its current size since around 1600. The interiors hide an impressive fresco from the 16th century. This work of art depicts Saint Agathe. In addition to various paintings from the 17th century, the church houses wooden busts of the apostles Peter and Andrew, who are known as the patron saints of fishermen. Stroll around the island to admire this architectural gem. There are also a few shops on the island where you can buy regional specialties or souvenirs. There are several piers for passenger ships and water taxis on the island. These vehicles mainly enter the port area of the island. Your particular attention is required at this port entrance. Because here is a life-size statue of the praying Madonna immortalized, which is supposed to offer protection to the island.
