Thor Central is centrally (!) Located in Thor Park, the former Waterschei colliery area, one of the seven mines in the Kempen coal basin. The mine was in operation between 1924 and 1987 and produced a total of 72 million tons of coal. It supplied more than 200,000 households with energy and employed more than 6,800 people in its heyday.
Those times are long gone, today you are surrounded by knowledge and competence in matters of sustainable energy technology, technology and innovation. Because Thor Park is a technology and science park on an area of 93 hectares.
Do you need some refreshment? Then off to the food plaza. For a quick snack or lunch we recommend the Brasserie Lampada, a cozy lunch or dinner is served in the Partaasch restaurant. The Foodplaza is located in the former Sankt-Barbara-Halle, which is named after the patron saint of miners. The dome with the glass tiles, the side rooms separated by stained glass, the original tiles in black and yellow and the blue-green color make this room a unique experience. Here you can still feel the splendor of the mining heritage.
