The house of the manor Bauerbach served Schiller as a place of refuge from December 7, 1782 to July 24, 1783: Henriette von Wolnahm gave him three rooms on the upper floor of her house. As early as 1847, the poet's study and bedroom were set up as a private memorial. They have been permanently accessible to the public since Schiller's 100th anniversary of his death in 1905. In 1934 the national foundation "Schiller in Bauerbach" acquired the private property and also furnished the so-called "Wolzo-rooms" as a museum.

After fleeing Stuttgart, Friedrich Schiller arrived in Bauerbach near Meiningen in early December 1782:
Henriette von Wolzogen, the mother of a former fellow student, granted the poet asylum.
It was here that he wrote the tragedy Louise Millerin, later known as Kabale und Liebe, the only surviving transcript of which can be seen in the exhibition.
