    The inland dune is about 36 meters high and from the vantage point you can observe rare species of birds (e.g. cuckoo, black kite, great spotted woodpecker and woodlark). In addition, the dune is one of the largest inland dunes in Brandenburg. The sand and open areas - some with pine trees - are very worth seeing.

      At the beginning of 2011, large areas of pine and other trees and shrubs were removed from this area. This created large, connected open areas that are intended to provide dry grass species and insects with more light.
      Open sandy areas have become rare in Germany. The LIFE project “Sand lawns in the Dahme lake area” has been taking care of the open sand areas of the inland dune since 2015. These areas are kept open through regular grazing with sheep and goats. As a starting point for the recolonization with typical plant species, the clear southern slope was mown in the summer of 2016 and the cuttings were distributed over several open areas. Over the next few years you can watch as sand specialists reclaim this habitat.
