The written sources name Maria and Agnes as patrons of side altars in the church before the Reformation. They do not provide any information about the original main namesake of the church, and the vernacular has not preserved any memory of him. Since 1979 the congregation has called their church Martinskirche, since all other early churches in the area were consecrated to Saint Martin.
