French Church, Murten
From 1481, the late-Gothic French church replaced the earlier St. Catherine's Chapel. Above the entrance door is a plaque commemorating the reformer Wilhelm Farel (1530).
The Catherine Chapel stood near today's train station until 1476. It was demolished before the battle and then rebuilt at this new location.

From the high plateau of the church you have a beautiful view of Lake Murten and the surrounding area. Benches invite you to take a break.
It was built in 1481 on the site of a previous Catherine chapel and served as a church for the French-speaking members of the Murten parish. Today it is used by the parish for both German and French-language services. The Freiburg cantonal church also celebrates ordinations in it if only one pastor is consecrated as Verbi divini minister.
