Called "The Tower of the Twelve" (Zwölferturm), it separates the historic center from the modern quarter of the city. The tower is not only the emblem of Vipiteno but, with its height of 46 meters, also its tallest building. The name probably derives from its bell which calls the citizens to the midday lunch break ("at twelve").

The Twelve Tower (Italian: Torre delle dodici) is the tallest building in Sterzing (Italian: Vipiteno) with a height of 46 meters and is thus a landmark of the city in South Tyrol. According to tradition, the name Twelve Tower comes from the fact that its 12 o'clock strike calls the residents to lunch.[1] The tower can be visited as part of the Christmas market from the end of November to the beginning of January.
