          The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Laurentius in Schmölz, a part of the market town of Küps in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach, was first mentioned in 1302. The parish belongs to the deanery district of Kronach-Ludwigsstadt of the Bayreuth church district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria.

            The first documented mention of a church in Schmölz dates back to 1302. Further evidence of a church being built comes from 1335. Around 1500, the patronage of Laurentius of Rome was mentioned in documents, and in 1500 the parish separated from Graitz. In 1545, Christoph von Redwitz introduced the Reformation. After the Counter-Reformation in 1632, Schmölz finally became Protestant in 1649. The core of the western nave probably comes from a medieval church. In the early 17th century, the church tower was added to the west. At the same time, the nave was extended to the east. The sacristy was added in 1657. In 1690, the church was raised to accommodate a gallery, giving it its current appearance.:S. The community had 232 restorations carried out, including in 1899, 1935, 1965 and 2001.

                The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Laurentius dominates the image of Schmölz, a district of the market town of Küps in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach. First mentioned in 1302, the church has an older core, which was built over in the 16th/17th centuries. The striking four-story tower with its pointed roof and watchtower was added later. Inside, the church houses a pulpit altar dating from around 1700. The parish is part of the Kronach-Ludwigsstadt deanery district.
