The foundation stone for today's church was laid in August 1888. The church was extended by a new building and the ship was raised. The former domed tower was replaced by a pointed tower, and for consecration in 1889, the patronal feast of the Assumption was granted to the church. Worth seeing is the Rococo altar by Bernhard Kamm, the last prince-bishop court sculptor Bambergs and the organ by Johann Wolf.

The patronage "Maria (or in other spelling: Mariä) Himmelfahrt" of this church in Höfen refers to one of the many commemorative days or feast days in honor of Mary, the mother of God.
