The farm garden in Lorup invites you to stroll between many berry bushes
Directly behind the town hall in Lorup is a farm garden with an attached orchard. The area is the former garden of the hospital and later retirement home in Lorup. The first section of the hospital was built in 1934. The property was donated by members of the Catholic parish of Lorup. The sick were cared for by Thuiner sisters who had been working in nursing in Lorup since 1913. After the building was expanded in 1958, the hospital was operated until 1972 and then converted into a retirement home, still under the management of the Thuin Sisters. At the end of 1995, operations at the nursing home were discontinued. In the summer of 1996, the Lorup community acquired the empty building and the main part of the property from the Catholic parish. After extensive renovation work, today's town hall was used as the seat of the municipal administration in the spring of 1998.
Today's farm garden was prepared in 2009 as part of a LEADER project. The paths invite you to stroll between many berry bushes, which you can also enjoy snacking on.
