The narrow Metzgergasse - near the collegiate church - is a romantic street in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse.
The late medieval half-timbered buildings in Neustadt are among the few preserved in the Palatinate that were not destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689.
There is a house in Metzgergasse that can be dated to the years 1382/84. This makes it one of the oldest half-timbered buildings in Rhineland-Palatinate that has been dated to date. The construction of the 14th century has been preserved throughout the building from the ground floor to the roof. Subsequent interventions primarily affect a row of rooms facing the street in the early 17th century, which, however, is only partially reflected in the old structure.
From 2001 to 2003 the German Foundation for Monument Protection helped with the static securing of the half-timbered construction and has been supporting the work on the facade and the windows of the building since 2005.

Metzgergasse branches off from the market square. Together with the adjacent Kunigundenstraße, it is one of the narrowest streets in the city. Only in a few places is there enough space for the landlords of the adjoining wine restaurants to put a few tables and chairs in front of the door in summer. Guild signs and artistic stone carvings attract the attention of tourists and guests in both alleys.
