Friedrich von Steinberg built the Brüggen Castle in 1693 under the leadership of the architect and Wolfenbüttel court architect Herrmann Korb. Brüggen was one of the most important knights' seats in the Hildesheim region in the Middle Ages. The structure and the decorative details have Italian and Dutch influences. Inside, there is still a part of the 18th and 19th century furnishings, including various portraits of the von Steinberg family, the Guelph dynasty and related personalities. He joined the early medieval cultural centers Hildesheim and Gandersheim. Behind the Hildesheim forest, the Rennstieg leads from the Eberholzer forest partly on the Royal Road through the Seven Mountains and the Sackwald to Winzenburg. The symbol of the mountain spirit "Hödeken" and the marking "R" shows the hiker the way through the beautiful Leinebergland.
