The old parish church, listed in liber valoris and 1298, lay in the cemetery to the east of the town. In 1388/1414 it was incorporated into the Augustinian monastery founded around 1298 in the village, which had provided pastoral care since 1299. After secularization in 1802, the monastery church was taken over by the parish and in 1823 the dilapidated old parish church was demolished. In place of the former monastery church, this neo-Gothic style church was built between 1891 and 1894. The striking tower was completed in 1896 and the interior decoration was not completed until 1909, according to the plans of the government architect Julius Busch in Neuss.
