On the cathedral square, two impressive gentlemen are deep in conversation:
Tsar Peter I and King Friedrich Wilhelm I have been commemorating a historic event since 2015. In Havelberg, the legendary Amber Room symbolically changed hands in 1716. In return, the Prussian king received a squad of grenadiers from the Russian tsar, the king's bodyguards, who became known as the “Long Guys”.

In the years 1700 to 1721, the Great Northern War was fought in Northern, Central and Eastern Europe, in which an alliance of the Russian Tsarist Empire and the alliances of Saxony-Poland and Denmark-Norway fought with the Swedish Empire for supremacy in the Baltic Sea region.
In order to bring about a turning point in this long war, a diplomatic meeting between Tsar Peter I of Russia and the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm I, who went down in history as the soldier king, took place from November 13 to 17, 1716 in the royal residence in Havelberg. At such meetings it was customary to exchange gifts. Tsar Peter I received the legendary Amber Room from Friedrich Wilhelm I in addition to a state yacht. It was commissioned by the first Prussian king, Frederick I, and consisted of amber wall coverings. These were originally installed in the Berlin City Palace and, after being donated to Peter I, were in the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo near Saint Petersburg for almost two centuries. From 1942 the Amber Room was exhibited in the Königsberg Palace. It has been considered lost since the end of World War II.
In return, the Prussian king received a troop of grenadiers from the Russian tsar, known as the "long fellows", the king's bodyguards.

St. Marien is an evangelical church and used to be the cathedral of the Havelberg diocese. The cathedral has immense dimensions and you can visit it. It has been rebuilt several times throughout history.
It was part of the BUGA 2015. Concerts are also held here.
In addition, it also houses a museum.
