Actually, this is just a small part of the beach promenade. At this point is the surf beach and here are in contrast to the beach dogs tolerated. However, there is still a small separate dog beach, which is located about one kilometer further west.
For reasons of bird protection, surfing on the Steinhuder Meer is only allowed from 1st April to 31st October. In the remaining time, migratory birds from Northern Europe should be able to move in undisturbed to their winter quarters. Officially, there is only this access point for surfers on the Steinhuder Meer.
The Mardorf surf beach has become a mecca for kite surfers in recent years. When walkers and cyclists turn up their jackets and look for a sheltered spot, high-life is at Mardorfer Strand. The windsurfing, but especially the kite scene, then delivers real "eye-catcher", a truly fascinating spectacle.
