At 36 meters above the ground, the Henderson Waves Bridge is the tallest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. This bridge was inaugurated in 2008.

Thanks to its shape, it offers hidden hiding places and shell-like niches where pedestrians can sit and watch the surroundings. As it offers private corners and places to relax, the bridge is popular with couples, families with children and joggers at the weekend.

Even after dusk, visitors stay here to admire the bridge, which is illuminated with LEDs every night from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. for a breathtaking effect.

    자주 묻는 질문

What are the best trails to explore around Henderson Waves?

Henderson Waves is a central feature of the 9-kilometer Southern Ridges trail. Beyond the bridge itself, popular routes include the Marang Trail leading up to Mount Faber Park, the Forest Walk and Canopy Walk in Telok Blangah Hill Park, and the elevated pathways connecting to HortPark and Kent Ridge Park. These trails offer varying lengths and experiences, from leisurely strolls to more extended hikes through lush greenery.

What is the typical difficulty and terrain of the Southern Ridges trails connected by Henderson Waves?

The Henderson Waves bridge itself features a gentle incline and wide deck, making it accessible for most visitors. However, the connecting Southern Ridges trails can vary. While generally considered easy to moderate, some sections, like parts of the Marang Trail, involve stairs and steeper ascents. The terrain is mostly paved or well-maintained boardwalks, but some areas might have natural paths. It's suitable for beginners, but longer routes require a basic level of fitness.

Are there specific viewpoints or landmarks along the Southern Ridges worth visiting near Henderson Waves?

Absolutely. From Henderson Waves, you already get panoramic views of the city skyline, harbor, and Southern Islands. As you explore the Southern Ridges, don't miss the Faber Point at Mount Faber Park for its iconic mural and bell, or the elevated walkways like the Forest Walk and Canopy Walk which offer unique perspectives of the forest canopy. HortPark, known as the 'Gardening Hub,' is also a beautiful stop with themed gardens.

What are the parking options available for visitors to Henderson Waves?

Limited parking is available near Henderson Waves, particularly at the carparks for Mount Faber Park and Telok Blangah Hill Park. Due to its popularity, especially on weekends and public holidays, parking spots can fill up quickly. Arriving in the early morning or late afternoon is strongly recommended to secure a space.

What are the best public transport options to reach Henderson Waves?

Henderson Waves is well-connected by public transport. You can take the MRT to HarbourFront Station (NE1/CC29) and then either walk up the Marang Trail to Mount Faber Park (approximately 15 minutes) or take a bus from the bus interchange. Several bus routes also stop along Henderson Road, close to the bridge's base, providing convenient access.

Are permits required to walk the Henderson Waves or the Southern Ridges trails?

No, permits are not required to visit Henderson Waves or to walk along the Southern Ridges trails. All parks and the bridge are open to the public free of charge, offering accessible recreational opportunities for everyone.

Is Henderson Waves suitable for families with young children or strollers?

Yes, Henderson Waves is very family-friendly. The bridge itself has a wide, gently inclined deck, making it suitable for strollers and young children. The sheltered alcoves provide perfect spots for families to rest. While the bridge is accessible, some connecting trails within the Southern Ridges might be less stroller-friendly due to stairs or uneven terrain, so plan your route accordingly.

    Is Henderson Waves dog-friendly?

Yes, dogs are generally allowed on a leash at Henderson Waves and most parts of the Southern Ridges trails. It's a popular spot for dog owners to enjoy a walk with their pets. Please remember to clean up after your dog and ensure they are well-behaved around other visitors.

Are there cafes or restaurants conveniently located near Henderson Waves?

While there are no cafes directly on Henderson Waves, you'll find dining options in the nearby parks. Mount Faber Park has restaurants like Arbora Hilltop Garden & Bistro, offering scenic views. HortPark also features a cafe. Additionally, the HarbourFront Centre and VivoCity shopping mall, accessible via a short bus ride or walk from the base of Mount Faber, offer a wide array of dining choices.

What is the best time of day to visit Henderson Waves to avoid crowds?

To avoid the largest crowds, especially on weekends, consider visiting Henderson Waves early in the morning (before 9 AM) or later in the evening on weekdays. The bridge is particularly popular during sunset and when it's illuminated from 7 PM to 2 AM, so expect more visitors during those times. Weekday mornings generally offer a more tranquil experience.

What should I wear for a walk or hike around Henderson Waves and the Southern Ridges?

Given Singapore's tropical climate, light, breathable clothing is recommended. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, especially if you plan to explore the longer trails of the Southern Ridges. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are advisable for sun protection. Don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
