Jakhoo Temple is a temple dedicated to the monkey god Hanuman. It stands at an altitude of 2438 m above sea level, about 2 km east of the city. From that height there is a beautiful view of Shimla. According to legend, Hanuman (the most faithful aide of Rama) visited this place during Rama's famous battle, in which Rama's younger brother Lakshman was seriously wounded. His life could be saved by a single herb that grew only in the Himalayas. Hanuman set out to get the herb and on his way back rested on Jakhu (Jakhoo) Hill. As in other places dedicated to the monkey god, hundreds of monkeys live here too.
