The Gieselau is a stream in the eastern Dithmarschen. Previously, the creek flowed into the Eider. However, this natural connection was interrupted by the construction of the Kiel Canal. It was not until the construction of the Gieselau Canal that a connection was established next to the old Gieselau bed. The Gieselau is spawning area for sea trout. The entire Gieselautal in the hilly geest landscape of the Dithmarscher Switzerland was renatured and is today a nature reserve. It will later become the FFH area (Flora-Fauna-Habitat). The valley belongs to the grounds of the Archaeological-Ecological Center in Albersdorf. Pretty hiking trail along the creek and through the Gieselautal with many interesting and instructive boards. Interesting also the info hut at the beginning of the trail with interesting facts about the Gieselautal and its creation. Definitely worth seeing.
