The Windberg (1,903 meters), the highest point of the Schneealmmassiv, rises no more than 30 minutes from the Schneealpenhaus. The Schneealm is located in the district of Mürzzuschlag in the province of Styria, only a small part of the massif belongs to Lower Austria. The view from the summit is sufficient in suitable weather (unfortunately I did not have that today) from the Hohe Veitsch, Hochschwab, Göller to Schneeberg and Rax. In extremely good visibility you can also guess the Gesäuse and the Dachstein massif.

The Schneealpe, also called Schneealm, is a bit in the shadow of Rax and Schneeberg. With a length of twelve and a width of seven kilometers, however, the high plateau of the Schneealpe far surpasses that of the neighboring Rax. A variety of routes and opportunities for crossing, for example, from the Rax over the Schneealpe to the Hinteralm, have high alpine character, which some climbers unfortunately only aware of bad weather. In fair weather on easy routes, the Schneealpe is also quite an area for family walks.
