    Naarden is a fortified city and the fortifications have been almost completely preserved. Wonderful to walk around. A museum is located in one of the bastions.

      West of the city is still the Naardermeer, an important bird sanctuary with cormorants, spoonbills (a subfamily of Ibises) and other water birds. It can be visited from time to time with guidance.

      Naarden has a marina; The Gooimeer, a remnant of the former Zuidersee, is nearby and offers many opportunities for water sports.

      In the old town, the fortifications are as good as completely preserved. In one of the bastions there is a museum.

      The Great or St. Vitus Church (gothic, 1380-1479) has excellent acoustics. Every year, the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach is performed here by well-known singers and musicians. The former city scale, built in 1615, houses a Comenius Museum. A mausoleum for this thinker is housed in a former chapel from the 15th century.

      In the city center are still some beautiful old houses.
