In 1832, the Prussian postmaster, Major (ret.) Karl Friedrich von Koseritz, bought the building and turned it into a post office or post station. To the left of the entrance was the waiting room for travelers, and to the right was a counter where letters were posted. In January 1834, the first mailbox in Dessau was installed at the post office, but only for letters whose postage was paid for by the recipient. In 1850, after the introduction of postage stamps, four more mailboxes were distributed in Dessau. From 1892 to 1936, the master glazier Hermann Sommerlatte owned the building and had an extensive glass warehouse in the rear building. In the front building on the right was a restaurant, called "Zur alten Post" from 1893 onwards, which was run by the innkeeper Käsebier in 1930. On the left, Wilhelm Klußmann's large southern fruit shop sold its goods. The building burned down in March 1945. However, the building was quickly restored, so that Mrs. Greis, who had purchased the property in 1940, soon reopened the restaurant "Zur alten Post".
