The Olympic Museum (French: Musée olympique) in the “Olympic capital” of Lausanne was opened on June 23, 1993 on the initiative of Juan Antonio Samaranch.
The museum brings a piece of sports and cultural history closer in a playful way, e.g. through audio-visual shows and original equipment by well-known Olympians from all over the world. Several times a year temporary exhibitions complement the permanent collection. The IOC's philatelic collection deserves a special mention.
