The history of the castle domain of Brasschaat originated in the 18th century, when the Helhoeve, the predecessor of the castle of Brasschaat, was converted into a court of pleasure. When Armand Reusens became mayor of Brasschaat in 1872, he had a new beautiful castle built according to the French model and the Helhoeve was demolished. He acquired the domain from his father and his predecessor Honoré Guyot. Under Reusens, the domain expanded considerably. In 1896-1897, the castle was expanded with two side wings and obtained its current appearance. After his death, the domain came into the hands of his nephew Albert-Octave ’t Serclaes de Wommersom.
In 1906, the ownership rights were transferred to the NV Anvers-Extension, chairman of the NV, Eduard Thys, lived in the castle until 1914. In 1923, the NV sold the castle to Anne-Rose Gremmingen, widow of Georges Born. In 1949, the castle and domain of almost 170 ha were purchased by the Municipality of Brasschaat. The land along the Bredabaan was divided into plots to lighten the purchase burden. Since 1978, the domain has been partly managed by Bos en Groen. The castle was transformed into a hotel-restaurant. Today, the neoclassical castle of Brasschaat is a unique setting for family parties, corporate events or weddings.

Unique, another term would do this location short. A beautiful, historic castle combined with the view of 160 hectares of park and equipped and furnished according to contemporary expectations. Would you use a word other than unique? Brasschaat Castle encompasses all of this and is only 5 minutes from the Antwerp-Breda motorway.

The domain can be traced back to three farms: Vagevuurhoeve, Hemelhoeve and Helhoeve. The Helhoeve was already mentioned in 1602 and formed the core of the domain. In 1787 and 1821, the Hemelhoeve and Vagevuurhoeve were also added to the domain. In the 18th century, the Helhoeve was converted into a pleasure garden and in 1864 it came into the possession of Count Auguste Reusens. His son had the Helhoeve demolished in 1872 and replaced it with a large castle: the Brasschaat Castle. This castle was located in the middle of an extensive park. Service residences were also added: homes for forest rangers, gardeners and caretakers.

In 1897, the castle was expanded with two wings. In 1909, terraces were constructed towards the pond. The domain was expanded further in 1865, 1883 and 1887.

In 1949 the castle and the domain were purchased by the municipality. The castle became a hotel-restaurant. The domain became a public park.
