Cycling eastwards from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg to Leer along the Ems via the dyke route, after almost 5 kilometers you reach the place Mitling-Mark, which was first mentioned in documents in 1436.
It is an invigorating feeling when, after a bend in the river, one sees the Mitling-Market mill from 1843 for the first time in a wide panorama of the dyke and marshland, before one sees it in its full size after the next bend in the river between the village and the dyke in the sunlight of a shine on a sunny spring day. The surrounding old buildings as well as the overall atmosphere of the picturesque village give the location of this one-story gallery Dutchman with cod-end and venetian blinds a very special charm. There was a post mill here as early as the 17th century, which can still be admired in Papenburg on the “Wiek”.
The restoration of the Mitling-Marker Mühle testifies to loving thoroughness. Not far from the mill in the village is the “Ferry House” inn with a terrace (komoot.de/highlight/495275), where you can take a break with coffee and cake, or even a full meal.
In any case, it is advisable to take the opportunity to visit the church in Mark, 1 km from Mitling. (komoot.de/highlight/1367500)
Following the path further north, the Grotegaste church is a little off the beaten track:

If you turn off to Ihrhove, the recreational lake Ihrhove (komoot.de/highlight/588389) and the Gasthof Uhlenhof (komoot.de/highlight/166795) are 1.5 km away from the Deichstraße ) for a neat break.
