Hamborn's story clearly shows how quickly the population here in the area grew a good hundred years ago: In 1900 Hamborn was still a village, although 30,000 people already lived here. In 1910 there were over 100,000. Officially, Hamborn was still a village.

The botanical garden, founded in 1906, was dismantled: Instead of the classic collections, the garden now offers a well-tended green area with a perennial garden and a cottage garden. Olive, oleander and citrus trees overwinter in the orangery. Further highlights are a heather landscape, the rhododendron, primrose and fuchsia collections, as well as the show aquariums.
