The walled Monnikerhoeve or Grote Hoeve in Meerhout is located on the banks of the Grote Nete. The oldest mention of the farm goes up to 741.
In 1229 the property came into the possession of the Cistercians sisters of the abbey of Maagdendaal in Oplinter. Around 1300 there was a tithe barn here.
Later a farm was built around it. The farm was renovated several times over the centuries, including an important renovation in 1718. The house got its current T-shaped floor plan shortly before the Second World War. Several building tracks, however, still refer to older construction phases. The farm also consists of an eighteenth-century coach house, a barn and stables. A plane tree drive leads to the farm.
The Grote Hoeve and its surroundings were protected as a landscape in 1944.
In 1971 the building complex of the Grote Hoeve was protected as a monument.
The farm is privately owned.
