“Not far from the old church of Solda is the new parish church, which is also dedicated to St. Gertraud – it bears the name Parish Church of St. Gertraud. Outside is a garden where a memorial commemorates the fallen of the First and Second World Wars.
The parish church of St. Gertraud was built after the old parish church, on the initiative of the curate Johann Eller, who became parish priest in 1891. Eller wanted a new church that was larger than Solda's existing church. For this reason, his sister, Kathi Eller, gave him the property on which the new church was built as a gift. Not only the Eller family, but also the local residents and some guests contributed to the financing of the church.
The construction of the new parish church is predominantly in the neo-Romanesque style with a separate round chancel, side tower, atrium, gable roof and round arches. Three wooden altars in the neo-Romanesque style rise under the cross vault inside the church.
In the garden around the church is the second cemetery with more modern tombstones and behind them rise the mountains of the Ortler group. Sulden, a place with two churches and a fantastic panorama, cast a spell over me.”
