For the sluggish and harmless flowing Wörnitz the bridge seems to be exaggeratedly massive. That this has its justification becomes clear when it must withstand the often huge floods that afflict the town in regularity.

It is hardly conceivable today that until the construction of the new concrete bridge on the southern entrance to the city, all traffic in the direction of Wemding, whether buses or lorries, passed over the Steinerne Brücke, also with oncoming traffic.
