On this square stands the Romanesque Église Saint-Pierre, the only remaining building of the former Notre-Dame Abbey, an influential nunnery from the 7th century. The abbey disappeared during the French Revolution, but the church was preserved and now serves as a memorial to victims of the deportations during WWII.

Next to the cathedral is the church of St.Pierre from the 12th century. (originally belonging to the Abbey) a remaining spiritual cultural monument of the city that survived the devastation of WW1. Today the Romanesque building is a parish church.
