    The former watchtower Torre del Tajo is located directly on the cliff. In the past it was mainly used for sighting pirate ships. The massive, round tower was built in the 16th century and is 13 meters high. From the paths that surround the Torre you have a great view of the cliffs.

            The watchtowers del Tajo, Trafalgar and Meca were built in the 15th-16th centuries. Built in the 17th century to defend against pirate attacks. At the beginning they were equipped with artillery, later converted into more effective watchtowers. They communicated with each other by smoke signals. In 1805, the historic battle of the Spanish and French fleets against the English fleet under Admiral Nelson took place in the waters in front of today's Faro de Trafalgar lighthouse.

            Due to vandalism by some former visitors, the tower can unfortunately no longer be opened for viewing.
