The I. Wiek-See was laid out in 1995/96 in the course of the construction of the new test area for Mercedes Benz. After the sand excavation was completed, it was determined that a natural landscape lake should develop for use. Due to its natural development, the body of water is currently inhabited by native fish species.The use of the body of water and the property was permitted to the Papenburg sports fishing club with the following restrictions or under the following conditions: The body of water is an important resting area for various species of swans, sawdaws, ducks and divers. In order to maintain these functions without restrictions, any use of the water is excluded from November 1st to February 28th of the following year. In the period between March 15th and June 15th it is forbidden to enter the north shore of the lake, in the other areas special consideration must be given to birds that are brooding and rearing young. The lake at the top of Papenburg has a size of approx. 15 hectares and can be reached from the road: 1. Wiek left 122.
