As is well known, all good things come in threes - in this case there are three rivers (Dutch: "rivieren"). In Rumst the Nete flows together with the Dijle and thus forms the Rupel, which later flows into the Scheldt. In the past you had to take long detours to get from one side to the other. Only since 2002 have there been two bridges, one over the Nete and one over the Dijle, popularly known as "the blue bridges".

Here in the area you will find beautiful nature full of charming places. In the past, clay was mined here in order to form bricks from it and then burn it. Years of mining have created a unique landscape and panoramic views. On the way you will come across witnesses of this past such as clay pits or the remains of abandoned brickworks.

These Blue Bridges are also an important link in the Rivierenland for commuter traffic and for many recreational people.

This is also the starting point of the Rupel.

The Rupel is the shortest river (12 km) in Belgium.
