The small town of Wolfrathshausen is famous for the history of its raft trip. Since the 12th century, building materials were transported on large rafts across the Loissach and the Isar to Munich. Even today, you can comfortably ride on a raft from there to Munich. Unique to the area is the Japanese Garden, a gift from the twin city of Iruma.

Wolfratshausen was first mentioned as "Wolueradeshusun" in a document from King Henry II dated June 30, 1003, at the court of Regensburg in connection with the demarcation of a hunting area. The Wolfratshausen Castle was built in 1116 by the Counts of Wolfratshausen, a branch of the Dießen-Andechs Counts. In 1280, Wolfratshausen was first referred to as a market town.
