The windmill tower is a former defense tower and dates from the 13th century.
It served as a windmill until 1849. In 1880 a 416 m3 water tank was installed at a height of 30 to 35 m and the tower of the Neuss waterworks on Weingartstrasse was used as a water tower. The tower survived the Second World War almost undamaged.

The windmill tower is a former defense tower near the Obertor and the new city garden in Neuss. It dates from the 13th century.
Until 1849 it served as a windmill. The robber captain Mathias Weber was imprisoned here in 1796, but escaped by jumping from a height of 7 m.
In 1880, a water tank with a capacity of 416 m3 was installed at a height of 30 to 35 m and the tower was used as a water tower by the Neuss waterworks on Weingartstraße. The tower survived the Second World War almost undamaged.
