The Schleifsee is part of the Walk park, with seating at the foot of the historic city wall of Neuenstein.

The Schleifsee, created in the 17th century by damming the Mühlkanal, belonged to the owners of the Schleifmühle. The Neuenstein swimming pool company, founded in 1905, had 1/3 of the lake laid out with stone slabs and a bathing hut built with the consent of the grinding miller Öttinger.

The state lordship of Hohenlohe-Oehringen, owner of the Schleifsee from 1911-1940, had the entire bottom of the Schleifsee covered with stone slabs and leased it to the Neuenstein swimming pool company for 80 marks a year. The Schleifsee was used for swimming until 1960.

In 1976, the state of Baden-Württemberg acquired the Schleifsee and leased it to the city of Neuenstein for 30 years. This acquired the Schleifsee in 2012 and redesigned it in the years 2014-15.
