Over the hundreds of years, pilgrims have repeatedly collapsed from exhaustion after crossing the Iwagami Pass. To combat this, a shrine to Jagata Jinzo, the bodhisattva of children and travelers, was established below the pass. You can also leave a small donation to the friendly deity, as he will guide you on your further path. Shortly behind the shrine, the path runs along a footbridge over a narrow stream and then up to the next pass.
