The capital of the Epirus IOANNINA is worth the trip for many reasons. Visiting the island deserves more time than I had available, unfortunately only an hour.
The small traditional old town is an attraction in itself. Okay, there are souvenir shops. But where are they not?
Aside from a number of several impressive Orthodox churches, the main one is the Ali Pasha Museum, which exists here because it was where he found refuge before he was caught and beheaded.
I personally find the bays with the (fishing) boats very charming.
What I found surprising was the discrepancy between very well-preserved and restored houses and facilities and completely dilapidated ones.
Bottom line: definitely visit! For one hour. Or for a day.
