"Heilgeist-Spital is one of the best-preserved hospital complexes in the southern Baltic Sea, next to the hospital in Lübeck, which was first mentioned in 1256. However, at that time it was still inside the fortification belt on Heilgeiststraße, which was named after it. Due to this outsourcing, the Medicinal Spirit Monastery was constantly exposed to siege and destruction.The oldest part of the hospital is the Medicinal Spirit Church, which dates back to the beginning of the 15th century, the small four-story hall church has a straight choir end and is equipped with a Baroque altar structure from the period around 1770. Noteworthy inside the church is the star and ribbed vault.Apart from the west portal, which leads to the waterway, the church has an east portal and two doors on the Ostempore, through which one succeeded in the so-called church It is formed by two parallel two-storey longhouses, which were added to the church around 1645 and were used to accommodate the sick, those in need of care and the elderly. The corridor is closed to the east by a gate that separates the church from the rest of the hospital. The Heilgeistkirche was a garrison church before 1945 and is today used as a church for the Heilgeist-Jakobi community. The restored church was equipped with apartments. Nice looking monastery houses in the middle of a historic monastery complex a few meters from the harbor of the old Hanseatic city of Stralsund. Cobblestone alleys, country roses and absolute peace and quiet are typical of this child-friendly, car-free residential area.

The Hospital of St. Spiritus, also known as the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, is the oldest municipal hospital in Stralsund, providing accommodation for the sick, the elderly, and those in need.

The restored church corridor is a very special part of the Heilgeistkloster: It houses several apartments that, in accordance with the monument protection regulations, have not only become beloved homes for their tenants, but also amaze visitors time and again. The rather unusual residential complex impresses with the contrast between old and new: brought up to the latest technical standards, it contains many exciting historical details that have been lovingly renovated - for example shutters, shoe scrapers or traditional doorbells with a rotary knob.
