The Mansfeld Museum was opened in September 1989 in Hettstedt's Humboldt Castle as the company museum of the Mansfeld Combine. As the largest employer in the region, the combine brought together all of the historical mining branches in the Mansfeld and Sangerhausen mining districts: copper slate mining, smelting and the semis industry. The purpose of the company museum was to document the region's 800-year history of mining.

The Mansfeld Museum in Humboldt Castle, with its large parking lot, is a suitable starting point for hikes and mountain bike tours. From here you can head for various routes along this hiking route "Wanderable, wildly romantic Wippertal". In one direction the Mansfeld Castle, in the other along the Wipper the Hettstedter Kunstzuckerhut and the Wiederstedt Novalis Castle. From both directions there is the possibility to get back to the starting point by public transport. There is also a stamp at the museum with the imprint of the steam engine.
