The chapel of Our Lady of Consolation in Need was founded around the turn of the century in neo-Gothic style by the Muyshondt sisters at a junction of the Pastoor Huveneersstraat. A chapel tree, more specifically Dutch lime, was planted near the chapel. Here it is wonderful to relax in the shade of the foliage.
History
The creation of a chapel by one person, a family, a neighborhood or a church institution used to be an expression of intense popular devotion. Popular belief turned to the patron saint in prayer to obtain a favor or out of gratitude; Miraculous properties were attributed to 'miraculous' found images. The neo-Gothic Our Lady of Consolation Chapel was founded around the turn of the century by the Muyshondt sisters and is one of the many Our Lady Chapels in Klein-Brabant, known for its Marian devotion. The chapel was restored by the municipality around 1988.
