    The steepest vineyard in Europe.

One of the most beautiful Moselsteige with challenging passages. Sturdy shoes, sure-footedness and good physical condition are the prerequisites for mastering the Moselsteig Trail on the "Todesangst" passage.

Very nice hiking trail on the steepest vineyard in Europe. After all, it is 400 meters high and due to its location it heats up very quickly on sunny days. So bring enough to drink with you. You also need a little fitness and a head for heights. You will be rewarded with stunning panoramas and a really great hiking experience.

The vineyards at Calmont are the steepest in Europe.

Quelle: Text Infotafel

The Calmont is an almost 400 meter high steep vineyard with a 65 degree incline, the slope of which has a vertical wave shape with hollows due to erosion. The Calmont via ferrata leads up and down through the vineyard over narrow, partly rooty and numerous rocky passages. Difficult passages are equipped with rock steps, rope safety devices, 6 steel ladders, 22 iron brackets and 16 stepping pins.

You don't need any special climbing equipment. Good hiking shoes are sufficient.

                        Europe's steepest vineyard: Bremmer Calmont.
With its height of 380 meters and a slope of up to 68 degrees, it is considered the steepest vineyard in Europe. In this Riesling vineyard, as part of the Calmont-Kloster-Stuben-Petersburg project as part of the state program WeinKulturLandschaft Mosel, an adventurous and eventful circular hiking trail about 5 kilometers long with an alternative via ferrata was laid out.
The trail, which runs between 200 and 300 meters in altitude, begins behind the Moselle bridge at the exit of Eller, a district of Ediger-Eller in the direction of Bremm. At the Eller train station, climb up to around the middle of the vineyard. Then you cross the vineyard to Bremm. In some places the path is secured with steel cables, brackets and ladders.

Absolute hiking recommendation, as the route is very varied. There are both straight hiking trails and via ferratas. Beautiful views of the Moselle and enough banks to rest and have a snack. During the high season, the winegrowers also conduct wine tastings at their stands.
