The Bielsteinklippe is a small rock cliff with lookout on the southeast slope of the Bielstein near Blankenburg. From the platform you have a good view in a small wooded valley and on the opposite, also densely tree-filled Astberg.
Near the Felssporns branch off the Bielsteinweg a narrow path. The signage draws the attention of the hiker to the cliff so that it is hard to miss. From the mountain side you can reach the masonry viewing platform via a few steps.
The name of the cliff reminds of the pagan forest god Biel, which was once revered by the Saxons living here. His sanctuaries were mostly on mountains. Therefore, it is not excluded that the natives of the Harz used the exposed location of the Bielstein cliff in prehistoric or prehistoric times for cultic acts.
You can hike the Bielsteinklippe well from the goat's head. The distance is about 1.5 kilometers. Other possible starting points are the Albert Schneider monument as well as the places Hüttenrode and Blankenburg.
