The former colliery site, which was used for mining hard coal until 1956, is now open to visitors as a park in which industrial culture and nature are combined. The historical structures of the industrial site are made visible and tangible. As part of the Hanover Garden Region, the Bremsbergweg, which creates the connection between the mine and the plateau, as well as the stairs to the rear part of the park with greenery, have been newly created.
The heap cone made of red slag, which can be seen from afar, is particularly striking; it serves as a vantage point for an unobstructed view far into the Calenberger Land. Since 2005, interested guests have also been able to visit the Deister Mining Museum and drive into the Klosterstollen visitor mine.

Only since 2009 has the Zechenpark, created as part of the garden region, been an attraction that combines memories of the mining culture with nature and wide views of the landscape.
Nature had already conquered the old dump back then.
