    Wray Castle is a 19th century Gothic Revival building on the shore of Lake Windermere. It's owned and managed by the National Trust with paid entry to the castle for non-members. You can still park here (parking charge for non-members) and walk around the gardens and further afield. The lakeside trails are very pretty and Blelham Tarn isn't far away.

      The builder was a retired surgeon who's wife was a gin baronesses (rich from making gin). she took one look and said Im not living here! And buggered off. the architect got so depressed he drank himself to death probably on gin

                      Joey's Cafe is highly recommended. They have delicious cakes and coffee. Everything is vegan.
                      A nice, young, friendly team cooks, bakes and serves.
                      Dogs are welcome and are well looked after.
                      The owner has dogs himself.
